Honda Jazz Overview

The Honda Jazz is the top international B-segment hatchback in Malaysia and it’s easy to see why. Its sharp design, class-leading cabin space, and adjustable ULTRA seats provide excellent value in a small package. It’s available with two engine configurations; a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine and a 1.5L hybrid setup.

Honda Jazz Variants

There are four variants for the Honda Jazz in Malaysia. The 1.5 S, 1.5 E, and 1.5 V variants have a 1.5L 4-cylinder SOHC i-VTEC engine, whereas the 1.5 Hybrid variant has a 1.5L 4-cylinder DOHC i-VTEC engine paired with an electric motor. The petrol variants are driven by a continuosly variable transmission (CVT) while the Hybrid is driven by a 7-speed dual clutch transmission (DCT).

The Honda Jazz price differs according to its model range. A new 1.5 S starts from RM72,511.54, a 1.5 E from RM78,161.82, a 1.5 V from RM84,955.45, and a 1.5 Hybrid from RM87,707.

Colors Available

There are five colors available for the Honda Jazz in Malaysia. The options are Lunar Silver Metallic, White Orchid Pearl, Passion Red Pearl, Modern Steel Metallic, and Crystal Black Pearl. However, the Hybrid model only gets three colors; White Orchid Pearl, Lunar Silver Metallic, and Modern Steel Metallic.

Honda Jazz Basic Features

Interior

The Honda Jazz has an impressive interior given its price point. It has an LCD meter cluster, touch panel auto air conditioning, push start button, ECON button, one touch turn signal, and the famous ULTRA seats. The 1.5 V variant gets half leather upholstery while the rest have fabric seats. The Jazz also has enough cup holders for all occupants; the 1.5 S has an impressive nine cup holders while the other variants have seven.

Exterior

On the exterior, the Honda Jazz has halogen headlights, LED taillights, body-colored outer handles, and a rear wiper system. Only the 1.5 E, V, and Hybrid variants have LED daytime running lights (DRL). All variants come with 15-inch alloy wheels while the 1.5 V has 16-inch ones.

Cabin Space

The Honda Jazz has class-leading cabin space thanks to Honda’s design that maximizes space. The Jazz has a length of 3,989 mm, a width of 1,694 mm, and a height of 1,524 mm. It has a 354-liter boot with the rear seats up. The ULTRA seats in the car are configurable to four modes; Refresh, Long, Tall, and Utility mode. Each mode allows users to carry large objects of varying sizes and shapes according to their needs.

Infotainment system

The Honda Jazz is fitted out with a basic infotainment and speaker system. The 1.5 S has a standard audio system with one USB port, AUX jack, and accessory port. The 1.5 E, V, and Hybrid variants are fitted with a 6.8-inch display audio system that has one HDMI port, USB port, accessory port, and hands-free telephone (HFT) support with steering switch control. The 1.5 V has six speakers, whereas the other variants have four.

Honda Jazz Driving Performance

The 1.5L 4-cylinder, i-VTEC engine on the petrol variants produces a maximum power of 120 PS (88 kW) at 6,600 rpm and a maximum torque of 145 Nm (14.8 kg-m) at 4,600 rpm. On the Hybrid variant, the engine produces a maximum power of 110 PS (81 kW) at 6,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 134 Nm (13.7 kg-m) at 5,000 rpm. Its electric motor produces a maximum power of 30 PS (22 kW) from 1,313 - 2,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 160 Nm (16.3 kg-m) from 0 - 1,313 rpm. The total combined power is 137 PS and the combined torque is 170 Nm. The petrol variants of the Jazz have a fuel consumption of 5.8 L/100km while the Hybrid variant consumes 4.0 L/100km. 

Honda Jazz Safety Features

In Malaysia, the Honda Jazz is equipped with all the important safety features that a modern car needs. All variants have Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), Hill Start Assist (HSA), ISOFIX, reverse sensors, security alarm with immobiliser, and at least two airbags. From the 1.5 E model and upwards, the Jazz packs more safety features including Hill Start Assist (HSA), Emergency Stop Signal (ESS), and a multi-angle reverse camera. The 1.5 E and Hybrid variant also get four airbags while the 1.5 V gets six airbags.

The Honda Jazz is the best hatchback in its class when it comes to practicality. While it’s not packed with flashy features and does not offer Honda SENSING, its cabin layout and ULTRA seats allow users to travel in comfort and even haul big items that its rivals cannot.
