Nissan Almera Overview

The Nissan Almera is a B-segment sedan that competes with the Honda City and Toyota Vios. Although it didn’t bring the fight to its competitors in the segment due to its unusual styling before, the Nissan Almera was updated in 2020 with a better design and more features. An outstanding feature that the Almera has is its Nissan Intelligent Mobility (NIM) advanced driver assist system (ADAS) which is standard on all variants.

Nissan Almera Variants

There are three variants available in Malaysia. With the update in 2020, the Nissan Almera is powered by a 1.0L turbocharged engine. The three variants are the 1.0L Turbo VL, VLP, and VLT.

The price of a new Nissan Almera starts from RM79,906 for the base VL model, RM85,715 for the mid-range VLP, and RM91,310 for the range-topping VLT.

Colors Available

There are six colors available on the Nissan Almera in Malaysia; Radiant Red, Monarch Orange, Dark Metal Grey, Brilliant White, Diamond Black, and Tungsten Silver.

Nissan Almera Basic Features

Interior

There are several differences in the interior trim and equipment between the Nissan Almera variants. Firstly, the base VL variant gets a urethane steering wheel with active return control, audio and Bluetooth handsfree switches, a standard display for the Advanced Drive Assist Display (ADAD), a carbon fiber patterned shift knob, manual climate control, and fabric seats with grey accents.

The VLP and VLT variants, however, get a leather steering wheel with an additional ADAD switch, a full-color 7-inch semi-digital ADAD display, a carbon fiber patterned shift knob with additional chrome lining, a dual-tone dashboard with a soft padded grey instrument panel, as well as full-leather seats. Additionally, the VLT variant gets cruise control. The VLP and VLT models also get automatic climate control.

Features that all variants share are one-touch turn signal, variable intermittent wipers, Intelligent Key (i-Key) with push-start ignition, engine immobilizer, zero-gravity-inspired seats for the driver and front passenger, front center console with armrest, and rear armrest with cup holders.

Exterior

The VL and VLP variants have auto on/off halogen headlamps as well as halogen daytime running lights (DRLs) and front fog lamps, while the VLT variant has full LED lighting instead. However, all variants have LED rear fog lamps, LED wing mirror signal lights, and LED rear combination lamps. External trim is similar across the range with power foldable and adjustable side mirrors, chrome grille, body-color door handles and rear diffuser, as well as a glass printed antenna. The VLT variant gets a gloss black trunk lid spoiler that gives it a sportier look.

Cabin Space

As a B-segment sedan, the cabin space in the Nissan Almera is decent and can comfortably fit five adults. The car measures 4,495 mm long, 1,740 mm wide, and 1,460 mm tall. The boot space is 482-liters which is expandable with the 60:40 folding rear seats. Although the boot is smaller than the Honda City and Toyota Vios, it’s more than enough for the average family.

Infotainment system

The base VL variant of the Nissan Almera gets a standard infotainment with AM/FM radio, USB, iPod, AUX, and Bluetooth connection, while the VLP and VLT variants get an 8-inch touchscreen display audio system with AppleCarPlay (Android Auto is unavailable). The sound system on the VL variant is fitted with four speakers while the VLP and VLT variants have six speakers. There are also three USB power ports in the cabin.

Nissan Almera Driving Performance 

All variants are powered by the same engine which is the 1.0L 3-cylinder turbocharged HR10DET engine mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT). It produces a maximum power of 100 PS at 5,000 rpm and maximum torque of 152 Nm from 2,400 to 4,000 rpm. With its 35-liter fuel tank and 5.4 L/100 km fuel consumption, the Nissan Almera is estimated to have a range of up to 650 km on a single tank.

Nissan Almera Safety Features

For 2020, the Nissan Almera also gets a more comprehensive list of safety features. Nissan decided to group its suite of safety technology into two; the Nissan Safety Shield 360 and the Nissan Intelligent Mobility (NIM). The Nissan Safety Shield 360 comprises of standard safety features that can be seen on the vehicles which include Hill Start Assist (HSA), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) & Brake Assist (BA), Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) with Traction Control (TC), two ISOFIX seats with Top Tether, seatbelt reminder for five seats. The base VL variant gets two SRS airbags while the VLP and VLT variants get six.

NISSAN INTELLIGENT MOBILITY (NIM)

NIM is Nissan’s suite of advance driver-assist technology. On the Almera, NIM includes Intelligent Forward Collision Warning (IFCW) with Intelligent Forwards Emergency Braking (IFEB) which is standard on all variants. Only available on the VLP and VLT variants is Intelligent Around View Monitor (IAVM) with Moving Object Detection (MOD). The range-topping VLT variant gets additional safety features which are the Blind Spot Warning System (BSW) and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert.

With the update to the Nissan Almera’s styling, engine, and safety features in 2020, it makes for a very attractive B-segment sedan. It has all the features one would need in a car and impressive fuel economy figures.
